Fees and rebates

Fees

Clinical psychology services are exempt from GST. Payments are made on the day by cash, EFTPOS or credit card.

Referrals

A referral is required from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician to access clinical psychology services. Referrals can be made by email to [email protected] or fax to (08) 9388 0304.

Medicare

Medicare provides a rebate for patients referred by i) a GP under a Mental Health Care Plan or psychiatrist assessment and management plan, or ii) a psychiatrist or paediatrician. Patients are referred for an initial course of treatment (up to 6 sessions) and, following a review, can obtain a new referral for a further 4 sessions to a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year. Medicare require a written report to be provided to the referrer at review and completion of treatment, including information on assessment, treatment, and recommendations on future management.

The Medicare rebate is $129.55 per session for a Clinical Psychologist and $88.25 per session for a Clinical Psychologist Registrar (50 minutes), and can be claimed on the day with a current Medicare card and a cheque or savings card.  Registrar appointments are offered at a reduced rate.

Until 30 June 2022, Medicare will provide a rebate for 10 additional individual psychological therapy sessions each calendar year to eligible patients under the existing Better Access initiative.  This forms part of the government’s response to COVID-19.
